What makes GoDutch a strong alternative to Rabobank?
GoDutch distinguishes itself from Rabobank on four key points: speed of opening, transparent costs without fixed monthly fees, built-in automations for your administration and extensive international payment options. Where Rabobank is a traditional cooperative bank with physical branches and a broad product range including insurance and financing, GoDutch is a digital platform that focuses entirely on the business payment needs of modern entrepreneurs.
Concretely, that means: a Rabobank Business Account costs from €9.95 per month with additional transaction fees, while GoDutch starts from €0 with a transparent fee of €0.12 per SEPA payment. The onboarding at Rabobank takes place via a digital application process that can take up to several working days before your card and PIN arrive; with GoDutch, you have a working Dutch IBAN and virtual Mastercard within three hours.
The difference also lies in the target audience both parties are aiming at. Rabobank serves everyone from sole traders to large corporate clients with an extensive package of financial services. GoDutch focuses on smart automation, international flexibility and team features for entrepreneurs who want to streamline their administration as much as possible.
When do you choose GoDutch and when do you choose Rabobank?
The choice mainly depends on how you want to organise your financial administration and which additional services you need. Rabobank is generally a good fit for entrepreneurs who value physical branches nearby, want to make use of a broad range of financial products such as insurance, financing or a business savings account, and who appreciate Rabobank’s cooperative identity.
GoDutch is a better fit for entrepreneurs who want to work digitally and automate their administration. For sole traders, a business account for self-employed people with no fixed monthly charges can be applied for directly online. Owners of a BV often choose a business account for their BV because of the cashback on card spending.
For structures with multiple entities, a business account for your holding company allows quick switching between operating companies, and a business account for your general partnership gives both partners equal access.
For directors, a business account for foundations and a business account for your owners’ association are interesting, because the subscription falls under the 0% VAT rate.
How much quicker can you open a business account with GoDutch than with Rabobank?
With GoDutch, you can open a business account in three minutes and have your IBAN and virtual Mastercard in your hands within three hours. With Rabobank, you receive confirmation of your application within one working day, and then it takes up to three working days for your card and PIN to arrive physically.
In practice, this means:
GoDutch: three minutes’ online registration, three hours’ KYC/KYB processing and immediate activation via the virtual card in the app.
Rabobank: digital application, identification via the Rabo App, one working day for confirmation and then up to three working days waiting for the physical debit card with PIN.
Both parties now work with a digital application flow, so for neither do you need to go to a physical branch. The difference lies in turnaround time: GoDutch optimises the entire process to the same day, while Rabobank works to a working-day rhythm for the physical card. For entrepreneurs who want to invoice and pay immediately, especially if they are in a start-up phase, this difference of a few days can be decisive.
What monthly costs do you pay at Rabobank compared with GoDutch?
At Rabobank, you pay for the Business Account €9.95 per month excluding transaction fees. At GoDutch, you choose between four packages starting from €0 per month, all with a fixed transaction fee of €0.12 per SEPA payment.
The Rabo ZZP Account looks attractive at first glance with €0 monthly costs, but the transaction fee of €0.39 per euro payment quickly adds up. With an average of 25 transactions per month, you already pay €9.75, comparable to the Business Account. A detailed overview of the GoDutch packages and rates helps you to calculate your own situation.
Do I benefit from the Rabo Start-up Advantage at Rabobank?
The Rabo Starter Benefit is a Rabobank promotion: starters who have been registered with the Chamber of Commerce for less than one year pay no subscription fees on their Business Account for the first six months, with free euro payments and a free business liability insurance policy included. GoDutch uses a fundamentally different model: instead of a temporary discount, GoDutch offers a permanently free Free package with no fixed monthly fees, available to both starters and established entrepreneurs.
The difference lies in the duration of the benefit. With Rabobank, the Starter Benefit expires after six months and from month seven you pay the full rate of €9.95 per month, plus transaction fees. With GoDutch, the Free package remains free for as long as you want to use it. Over a five-year period, with the starter benefit you pay Rabobank a cumulative €537 (six months free plus 54 months at €9.95), compared with €0 fixed costs at GoDutch with the Free package.
More information about the Rabobank packages and the terms of the Starter Benefit can be found on the page about the Rabobank's business account. For entrepreneurs who want to save structurally, an account without fixed costs is generally more attractive than a temporary introductory period.
Which rewards programme does GoDutch offer that Rabobank does not have?
GoDutch offers unlimited cashback on every card transaction up to 1% per payment. Rabobank has no comparable rewards programme on its business debit card or optional credit card, and instead invests its cooperative profits in social projects.
The cashback levels at GoDutch per package:
Free: no cashback, but also no subscription fees
Starter: 0.1% cashback on all card spending, from €12 per month
Pro: 0.4% cashback and team cards, from €29 per month
Unlimited: 1% cashback and a dedicated account manager, from €49 per month
For an entrepreneur who spends €5,000 a month on business through the card, the Unlimited package delivers €600 per year in cashback. That is more than the €588 per year for that same package. With Rabobank, you get no cashback on your €119.40 annual subscription, no matter how much you spend with your business card. It is a fundamental difference in proposition: Rabobank chooses cooperative profit distribution, GoDutch chooses direct financial return to the customer.
Which automations does GoDutch offer that Rabobank doesn't?
GoDutch has built in a number of automations that are missing from the standard Rabobank Business Account. These include automatic invoice processing, VAT recognition and real-time balance visibility without extra tools or additional costs.
The automations that GoDutch offers as standard and Rabobank does not, or only partly:
Automatic invoice processing: incoming invoices are recognised, categorised and prepared for payment
Automatic VAT recognition: GoDutch recognises the VAT amount on transactions and categorises them for your administration
Real-time balance visibility: every transaction appears directly in the app, without synchronisation delay
Access for your accountant: add a user with their own permissions free of charge in every paid package
Bulk payments: upload up to 1,000 transactions per file from your accounting software
Rabobank offers these functions partly via Rabo Business Banking Pro or via separate tools and integrations, often at additional cost. For entrepreneurs who want to automate their administration as much as possible, GoDutch is better suited in this respect.
What are the differences in international payments between GoDutch and Rabobank?
GoDutch supports outgoing transfers to more than 60 countries, incoming transfers from more than 150 countries and payments in more than 20 currencies at the mid-market exchange rate. Rabobank also handles international payments, but applies an exchange-rate markup of around 1.4% and, by default, only euro payments via the Business Account; for foreign-currency accounts or overseas payments, additional fees per transaction apply.
At GoDutch you can see in advance in the app exactly which fees and exchange rate apply to your payment. No margin is added to the exchange rate; you pay the official mid-market rate and a fixed transaction fee. Rabobank charges an exchange-rate markup of around 1.4% on top of the official rate, plus separate charges for foreign transfers and foreign-currency accounts.
For entrepreneurs who do business internationally on a structural basis, the exchange-rate difference means a measurable saving on an annual basis. A company converting €100,000 a year in foreign currency pays around €1,400 in exchange-rate markup at Rabobank; with GoDutch, it is only the transparent transaction fees. For purely domestic or SEPA transfers in euros, the difference is small; for payments outside the EU, it is substantial.
How many team cards can you request with GoDutch versus Rabobank?
GoDutch lets you issue unlimited team cards with their own limits and spending rights per card. Rabobank uses a traditional structure in which the Business Account includes a main card and extra cards must be requested separately, typically for a fixed monthly fee per card.
The team card capacity at GoDutch per package:
Free: 1 virtual card for the owner
Starter: 1 virtual and 1 physical card, plus 1 extra user free
Pro: 10 virtual and 5 physical cards, plus 10 team cards for expenses or travel
Unlimited: unlimited virtual and physical cards, plus 50 team cards
Each GoDutch team card has its own spending limits per day, week or month and its own restrictions per expense category. If a member leaves or a card is lost, you block the card directly in the app. With Rabobank, adding an additional authorised person or cardholder is done via a separate request and additional costs apply per card. For SMEs with multiple employees, GoDutch is considerably more flexible in this respect.
How does GoDutch’s accounting integration differ from Rabobank’s?
GoDutch has direct API integrations with more than 30 accounting packages and these are included free in every plan. Rabobank offers accounting integrations via Rabo Business Banking and Rabo Business Banking Pro, with new rates applying from 1 January 2026 per linked account above the first.
The difference in operation:
GoDutch: transactions are synchronised in real time via direct APIs with Moneybird, e-Boekhouden, Exact, Visma and 25+ other packages, without extra costs per linked account
Rabobank: via Rabo Business Banking Pro a linked account costs €1.00 for 2-5 accounts and €0.50 for 6-10 accounts; with standard Rabo Business Banking €2.00 per linked account applies
For an entrepreneur with several business accounts, this price difference can add up. For example, someone linking four accounts to Rabo Business Banking Pro pays €3 extra per month or €36 per year excluding VAT. With GoDutch, that is included in the plan. A full overview of the available integrations can be found on the page with GoDutch accounting integrations.
How is your money secured at Rabobank compared with GoDutch?
At both GoDutch and Rabobank, your money is protected up to €100,000 per account holder via the deposit guarantee scheme (DGS). Both parties are subject to Dutch financial supervision and comply with the applicable security standards for business payments, including active fraud prevention and strict authentication procedures.
One difference lies in the operational setup. Rabobank is a cooperative bank with its own Dutch banking licence. GoDutch operates with an EMI licence and safely holds customer funds in a segregated account, separate from its own business assets. That means that even in the unlikely event of GoDutch's insolvency, customer funds remain protected via a European custody structure and the DGS.
Both parties use two-factor authentication as standard. Rabobank uses the Rabo Scanner and the Rabo App for logging in and confirming transactions. GoDutch uses biometric verification in combination with device binding via the mobile app. For business customers with balances above €100,000, it is sensible with both parties to spread deposits across multiple institutions to make full use of the guarantee per institution.
What is the difference in customer service between GoDutch and Rabobank?
GoDutch offers 24/7 personal support via chat, email and telephone from real staff. Rabobank works with regional offices where you can visit in person, plus telephone and digital support during office hours via the Rabo App and the business telephone number.
For those who prefer an in-person conversation, Rabobank's physical presence is a distinguishing feature. With regional branches spread across the Netherlands and local advisers, there is almost always an office nearby. For more complex issues around financing, mortgages or corporate services, that provides barrier-free access to specialist advice.
GoDutch operates from a fully digital support model. The support team is available on working days and at weekends, including in the evenings. For most business questions about opening accounts, transactions, card blocking and integrations, a chat or telephone conversation is usually enough and is generally handled within minutes. Pro and Unlimited customers receive priority support, and Unlimited customers also get a dedicated account manager.
The difference therefore lies in the approach: Rabobank is strong for entrepreneurs who value physical proximity and specialist advice. GoDutch is better for entrepreneurs who want a quick answer to operational questions, always and everywhere, without depending on office hours.
How do I close my Rabobank business account and switch to GoDutch?
Switching from Rabobank to GoDutch can be arranged in four steps, with you operational on your new business account within one working day. Only close your Rabobank account as the final step, so you can switch over calmly without missed payments.
Step-by-step plan for the switch:
Open your account with GoDutch: fill in the online application (three minutes), identify yourself with your passport or driving licence and wait for the KYC check to be processed (three hours). Your IBAN and virtual Mastercard will be active straight after that.
Share your new IBAN with contacts: send a short email to customers and suppliers with your new account number. In the GoDutch app, download a bank statement with your IBAN for your records.
Move direct debits and subscriptions: update your recurring payments for energy, software, suppliers and other periodic invoices. In GoDutch, set these up as a recurring instruction or via direct debit.
Close your Rabobank account: transfer the remaining balance to GoDutch and close your Rabobank account via Rabo Business Banking or by contacting your adviser. A detailed step-by-step guide to closing your Rabobank business account will help you through this.
Keep both accounts running in parallel for the first month, so any forgotten direct debits are not rejected. If you have any questions during the switch, the GoDutch support team is available 24/7 via chat, email or phone. Ready to switch? Open a free business account today and get started with your new administration straight away.
