Which of the two to choose?
Comparing ING and GoDutch for your business account? I founded GoDutch because a major bank like ING makes entrepreneurs pay too much for too little in return: fixed monthly fees, no cashback, slow application. With GoDutch, a modern entrepreneur gets a business account in 1 day, free of charge, with cashback and automated bookkeeping. This page provides an honest comparison for your business.

What are the biggest advantages of GoDutch compared with ING?
The biggest advantages of GoDutch compared with ING are direct digital onboarding without a branch visit, no fixed monthly charges on the Free package, integrated automation for your administration, and cashback of up to 1% on your card spending. ING is a traditional Dutch major bank with a broad product range and physical presence; GoDutch is built from the ground up for digital entrepreneurs.
In practice, you notice this difference immediately when opening an account. With ING, you start online, but for most packages you then have to visit an ING branch in person or (for sole traders) a service point in a tobacconist's or supermarket. With GoDutch, you identify yourself in the app and have a working Dutch IBAN within three hours. In addition, the ING Business Package offers no cashback and no built-in team cards, whereas GoDutch offers both as standard.
For entrepreneurs who want to automate their administration, make international payments or provide a growing team with their own cards, GoDutch offers a fundamentally different platform from ING.
How does the ING Business Package compare with the GoDutch packages?
The ING Business Package is one fixed package of €9.90 per month with basic functionality. GoDutch works with a tiered package structure of four levels, starting from €0 per month, with each higher package adding more features, cards and cashback.
The main difference lies in the freedom of choice. With ING you pay one fixed rate and use what is included; for more features (extra IBAN, accounting integration, foreign currency account) you pay separately. With GoDutch you choose the package that suits your usage, with all associated features included. The current packages and features are listed on the page with GoDutch rates and prices.
Which charges at ING are not immediately visible on the packages page?
In addition to the €9.90 monthly fee for the Business Package, ING charges various additional fees that are not always immediately visible on the package page. These include, among other things, customer due diligence costs, transaction fees, costs for extra accounts and cards, and separate charges for international payments.
The extra cost items at ING to bear in mind:
Customer due diligence: up to €20 per month depending on your legal structure
Transaction fees: €0.13 per debit or credit entry (on top of the monthly fee)
Extra business IBAN: €70.80 per year per account
Additional debit card: €18 per year per card
Foreign currency account: €6 per month on top of the Business Package
Worldwide payments outside the EU: fixed €12 per payment
Accounting integration: approximately €8.33 per month
An average private limited company owner therefore quickly ends up paying €15 to €25 per month in practice, while at first glance the package seemed to cost €9.90. A detailed overview of the fee structure is available on the page about the ING business account.
Is the ING Starter Package more cost-effective in the long term than GoDutch Free?
In the short term (the first six months), the ING Starter Package is cheaper because of the one-off €150 cashback. In the long term, from month seven onwards, GoDutch Free is considerably cheaper because the ING Starter Package then automatically switches to the Entrepreneur Package at €9.90 per month, while GoDutch Free remains permanently free.
In numbers, that means the following. The ING Starter Package offers six months with no subscription fees plus €150 cashback for start-ups that have been registered with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) for less than a year. From month seven onwards, you pay €9.90 per month, rising to €118.80 per year. Over a five-year period, with ING you pay a cumulative €534 in subscription fees (six months free plus 54 months at €9.90), minus the €150 cashback, leaving a net total of around €384. With GoDutch and the Free package, that leaves €0 in fixed costs over those same five years.
For start-ups that want to benefit from a cashback bonus in the first few months, the ING Starter Package is attractive. For those who immediately choose structurally low fixed costs without an expiry date, GoDutch offers more benefit in the long term. You can read more about what a free business account actually entails on the GoDutch blog.
How quickly can you get a working account with ING?
At ING, opening an Entrepreneurs Package typically takes one to two weeks, because after the online application you have to visit an ING branch in person or, for self-employed people, an ING service point. The same process applies to the Starter Package and the Associations and Foundations Package. With GoDutch, the entire application is digital and you have a working Dutch IBAN within three hours.
The steps at ING are as follows. First, you make an online appointment with the ING branch in your region or request an appointment at a service point. You then go there in person with your proof of identity, Chamber of Commerce extract and any additional documents. Once your application has been approved, you receive your debit card and PIN by post, usually within a few working days. Only then can you actually make payments from your new account.
For entrepreneurs in the start-up phase who want to be able to invoice or invest straight away, this difference of a few days to several weeks can be decisive. ING combines the hurdle of a face-to-face appointment with the waiting time for a physical card, while GoDutch enables payments directly from the app from the virtual Mastercard right from the start.
What does the ING service point mean for self-employed people?
An ING service point is a collection point in a tobacconist, supermarket or bookshop where self-employed workers can go to open a business account and collect their card. It is ING's answer to the decline in physical branches: instead of visiting head office, you sort out identification and the application for your debit card there.
In practice, you make an appointment online and then go to the nearest service point with your ID. For business owners with a sole proprietorship (ZZP'er), this is the standard process; for private limited companies, partnerships and other legal forms, you still have to go to a full ING branch. The service point therefore offers less service than a branch and is not a substitute for financial advice.
At GoDutch, no physical contact point is needed. You open a business account for freelancers and self-employed workers entirely from home, verify your identity in the app using your passport or driving licence, and are up and running within three hours. For sole traders who do not want to depend on opening hours or the availability of a service point, that is a significantly lower-barrier option.
Which automations are missing from the ING Entrepreneurs Package?
The ING Business Package includes the basic banking functions (payments, balance overview, mobile banking) but lacks a number of automations that GoDutch offers as standard. These include automatic invoice processing, VAT recognition, free accounting integrations and team cards with spending control per card.
Concrete automations that ING does not offer as standard and GoDutch does:
Automatic invoice processing: invoices are recognised and prepared for approval and payment
Real-time VAT recognition: GoDutch identifies the VAT amount on transactions for your records
Free accounting integrations: included as standard with GoDutch, with ING approximately €8.33 extra per month
Team cards with limits per category: virtual and physical cards for employees with their own permissions
Unlimited accountant access: add an extra user for your bookkeeping free of charge
For entrepreneurs who want to minimise their monthly administration, this means that with ING you need to use additional tools or an external bookkeeper for what is included as standard in the GoDutch app. An overview of the available GoDutch integrations can be found on the page with GoDutch accounting integrations.
How much does an international payment cost at ING?
An international payment outside the eurozone costs at ING a flat fee of €12 per payment, excluding the exchange-rate surcharge. To be able to pay or receive in foreign currencies, you also have to open a separate foreign-currency account for €6 per month. At GoDutch, international payments are included in every package, with no extra subscription costs and at the official mid-market exchange rate.
Concretely: an entrepreneur who makes 24 international payments a year pays ING €288 in transaction fees alone, plus €72 per year for the foreign-currency account and the exchange-rate surcharge of around 1.4% on top of the official rate. At GoDutch, you pay no fixed amount per payment, no subscription for a separate currency account, and the official mid-market rate applies without a margin.
For a business account for your holding company with intercompany transfers to foreign operating companies or for SMEs with international suppliers, the cost difference quickly runs into the hundreds of euros per year. Holdings with multiple entities can manage those international flows from one app, without having to open a separate foreign-currency account for each entity.
Does ING offer a special package for associations and foundations?
Yes, ING offers the Associations and Foundations Package: a tailored version of the Business Package with 50% discount on cashless SEPA payments in euros, up to a maximum of €75 per month. The monthly costs remain the same as for the standard package, namely €9.90 per month. GoDutch does not have a separate package for non-profits, but applies the 0% VAT rate to the subscription for foundations, homeowners' associations and other associations.
In practice, this works as follows. With ING, associations and foundations pay €9.90 per month for the package, plus €0.13 per transaction on which a 50% discount applies, up to a maximum discount of €75 per month. With GoDutch, you choose the package that suits your needs (Free, Starter, Pro or Unlimited), with the subscription automatically falling under the 0% VAT rate for your legal form.
For the boards of a business account for foundations or a business account for your homeowners' association, this means a lower cost base, especially when there are few transactions per month. In addition, with GoDutch you can add or change board members yourself without in-person appointments, whereas changes at ING are handled through the branch.
How big is the cashback difference between ING and GoDutch?
The difference is structural: GoDutch offers unlimited cashback of up to 1% on all card spending, whereas the ING Business Package has no cashback on the business debit card or optional credit card. Only the temporary ING Start-up Package includes a one-off €150 cashback, but that applies only for the first six months for start-ups.
With GoDutch, each package gives cashback on every card payment: 0.1% with Starter (€12 per month), 0.4% with Pro (€29 per month) and 1% with Unlimited (€49 per month), with no cap. For a business owner with average card spending of €6,000 per month, the Pro package generates €288 cashback per year, and the Unlimited package €720 per year.
For a business account for your private limited company where many expenses go through the business card (online tools, software, travel expenses, hardware), the cashback alone can easily more than pay back the subscription costs. At ING, the annual €118.80 subscription costs remain a net expense with no structural return.
Does my accountant get free access at ING?
No, at ING your bookkeeper does not get automatic free access to your business account. The Business Package includes standard access for two authorised users to My ING Business and the ING App, but further expansion of users or sharing transactions via a direct accounting integration costs extra. The accounting integration itself costs around €8.33 per month at ING.
At GoDutch you give your bookkeeper or accountant free access to your account, with their own permissions and without this counting towards the maximum number of users in your package. On the Starter package you get one free additional full user; on Pro ten free users; on Unlimited unlimited users. The accounting integrations themselves are included as standard in every package.
For entrepreneurs who work closely with an external bookkeeper or who want multiple people to view their figures (for example, a controller or a co-owner), this makes a measurable difference in both cost and ease of use.
What does ING do differently from GoDutch in terms of customer service?
ING combines online support with a physical network of offices and service points spread across the Netherlands. GoDutch operates from a fully digital support model with 24/7 availability via chat, e-mail and telephone, by its own Dutch- and English-speaking staff.
ING can be reached on working days during office hours via the business telephone number and the ING App. For emergencies (blocked card, suspicion of fraud) 24/7 support is available. In addition, for more extensive matters you can make an appointment at an ING branch or service point. For entrepreneurs who value personal contact, for example with financing matters or more complex payment traffic, this is a distinguishing feature.
GoDutch operates without offices and opts for always-available digital support. The support team usually handles questions within a few minutes, even in the evening and at weekends. Pro and Unlimited customers receive priority, and Unlimited customers also get a dedicated account manager. For entrepreneurs who want an immediate answer to operational questions without being dependent on office hours, that is a better fit.
How do I close my ING business account and switch to GoDutch?
Switching from ING to GoDutch is arranged in four steps, and you will be up and running with your new business account within one working day. You only close your ING account as the final step, so you can switch over calmly without missed payments.
Step-by-step plan for the switch:
Open your account with GoDutch: complete the online application (three minutes), verify your identity with a passport or driving licence, and wait for the KYC processing (three hours). Your IBAN and virtual Mastercard will be active straight afterwards.
Inform your contacts about your new IBAN: send customers and suppliers a short email with your new account number. From the GoDutch app, you can download a bank statement with your IBAN for your records.
Move direct debits and subscriptions: update your recurring payments for energy, software subscriptions, suppliers and periodic invoices. In GoDutch, you set these up as a recurring payment or via direct debit.
Close your ING account: transfer the remaining balance to GoDutch and close your ING account via My ING Business or by making an appointment at a branch. A detailed step-by-step plan for closing your ING business account will guide you through this.
Keep both accounts running in parallel for the first month, so that any direct debits you may have forgotten are not rejected. If you have any questions during the switch, the GoDutch support team is available 24/7 via chat, email or phone. Ready to switch?
