Which of the two to choose?
ASN Bank or GoDutch for your business account? I built GoDutch because traditional banks like ASN Bank focus on consumers: slow onboarding, few business tools, no cashback. At GoDutch, as a modern entrepreneur, you get a business account in 1 day, free, with cashback and automatic bookkeeping. Below I compare both accounts so you can see which suits your business.

What are the main differences between GoDutch and ASN Bank for entrepreneurs?
The main differences between GoDutch and ASN Bank lie in the package structure, onboarding speed, functional offering and international possibilities. GoDutch operates from €0 per month with automatic invoice processing, VAT recognition, team cards and cashback up to 1% included as standard. ASN Bank offers a traditional business account from €7.95 per month (Self-employed Payments) up to €10.70 per month (SME Account), with basic banking functions and a focus on sustainable banking.
In terms of onboarding, GoDutch is demonstrably faster. With GoDutch, your account is operational within three hours after the digital application; ASN Bank uses a KYC processing time of around two weeks for business applications. For entrepreneurs who want to be able to invoice or pay straight away, that translates in practice into days to weeks of productive time.
A third important distinction lies in international coverage. GoDutch supports payments in more than 20 currencies to 60+ countries and incoming payments from 150+ countries, at the official mid-market rate. ASN Bank supports euro accounts only and is available only for companies established in the Netherlands, with a foreign exchange markup on currency conversion. For entrepreneurs with international customers or suppliers, that difference is structural.
How long does it take to open a business account with ASN compared to GoDutch?
Opening a business account with ASN Bank takes an average of two weeks, counted from the digital application to an operational account with a debit card. At GoDutch, that entire process is completed fully digitally in three hours, with an online application of three minutes and KYC processing within one working day.
The steps at ASN Bank are as follows. You complete the online application (around 15 minutes), provide a Chamber of Commerce extract, proof of identity and, if necessary, additional documents (UBO declarations, articles of association, annual accounts). ASN Bank processes these documents in a KYC process of about two weeks, after which your debit card is sent by post. In practice, the entire process from application to an operational account takes fourteen working days.
At GoDutch, everything works in-app. Registration takes three minutes, identification is done via passport or driving licence in front of the camera, and KYC processing is completed within three hours. Your virtual Mastercard is active immediately afterwards. For entrepreneurs who want to get started straight away or who want to switch in parallel, that difference in onboarding time means the difference between doing business immediately and waiting two weeks for your bank.
How much does a business account cost at ASN Bank compared with GoDutch?
A business account with ASN Bank costs €7.95 per month for ASN Self-Employed Payments (ZZP) and €10.70 per month for the SME Account, with additional monthly customer due diligence costs of €1.50 to €5.00 per month depending on legal form. With GoDutch, you start from €0 per month on the Free package, with no hidden costs and no separate customer due diligence surcharge.
At transaction level, ASN Bank charges €0.15 per SEPA payment, while GoDutch charges €0.12 across all packages. For an entrepreneur with 50 SEPA payments per month, the structural difference is: ASN SME Account costs €10.70 + €3.00 customer due diligence (average) + 50 × €0.15 = €21.20 per month. GoDutch Free costs 50 × €0.12 = €6 per month, a difference of €15.20 per month or €182.40 per year.
In addition, ASN Bank implemented an 8% price increase on its business packages in February 2026, and has historically passed on earlier price rises annually. With GoDutch, the Free package is permanently free with no end date and the transaction fees are fixed. For entrepreneurs who want to predict their fixed costs, GoDutch offers a more transparent pricing model. A full GoDutch package overview shows the rates per package.
Which digital features does GoDutch offer compared with ASN Bank?
GoDutch offers a number of digital features that ASN Bank does not currently provide: automatic invoice processing, automatic VAT recognition, team cards with spending control and integrated expense management. ASN Bank is limited to basic banking functionality via Online Banking, with accounting links and payment transactions as core functions.
The digital features included as standard with GoDutch:
Automatic invoice processing: incoming invoices are recognised and prepared for approval and payment
Real-time VAT recognition: GoDutch recognises the VAT amount on transactions for your records
Team cards with spending control: virtual and physical cards with their own limits and category restrictions per employee
Unlimited accounting integrations: more than 30 packages without per-integration costs
Integrated expense management: overview of all business expenses with automatic categorisation
ASN Bank does offer a free switching service and standard accounting integrations, but lacks the integrated administration features that GoDutch offers as standard. For entrepreneurs who want to automate their administration as much as possible, the GoDutch platform delivers daily time savings without additional tools. A full overview can be found on the page with GoDutch integrations with accounting software.
How does GoDutch's international offering compare with that of ASN Bank?
GoDutch offers international payments to more than 60 countries and incoming payments from 150+ countries, in more than 20 currencies at the official mid-market rate without markup. ASN Bank supports euro accounts only and is only available for companies established in the Netherlands, with exchange-rate markup on currency conversion.
For entrepreneurs who have international customers or suppliers, the ASN offering in practice means currency exchange must be arranged externally, for example via a separate fintech or currency service. That brings extra administration costs and time, plus the exchange-rate mark-ups charged by external services (often 0.5% to 1.5%).
With GoDutch, international banking is integrated into every package from €0. On €100,000 annual currency transactions, the difference already amounts to €500 to €1,500 in GoDutch's favour, alongside the convenience of one integrated platform. For a account for holding structures with foreign operating companies, that is a measurable annual benefit.
What cashback does GoDutch offer compared with ASN Bank?
GoDutch offers cashback up to 1% on all card spending, increasing by package: 0% on Free, 0.1% on Starter, 0.4% on Pro and 1% on Unlimited, with no cap. ASN Bank offers no cashback on business card spending; there is no card rewards programme on the Betalen Zelfstandigen or MKB Rekening.
In practice, this means that an entrepreneur with €5,000 in monthly card spending via GoDutch Unlimited earns €600 cashback per year (1% × €60,000), while the same entrepreneur receives €0 at ASN Bank. For growing SME businesses with multiple spending employees, the difference quickly becomes substantial: a team of four employees each with an average of €2,000 in business spending per month generates €960 cashback per year with GoDutch Unlimited.
For a BV account where many business expenses are processed via the card (software, hardware, travel expenses, inventory), the cashback alone covers a significant part of the subscription costs. At ASN Bank, for the monthly fee of €7.95 to €10.70, you get no card reward, regardless of spending volume. The structural difference between profit-sharing and non-profit-sharing banking weighs in over the year.
How does GoDutch's customer service differ from that of ASN Bank?
GoDutch is available 24/7 via chat, email and telephone by its own staff, in both Dutch and English. ASN Bank offers customer service only during office hours (Monday to Friday), exclusively in Dutch, with telephone access and email contact as the main channels. ASN has no in-app chat function and is not available at weekends.
For entrepreneurs who need quick help in their day-to-day business operations, for example with a blocked card, a question about a payment or an urgent problem at the weekend, that means a practical limitation at ASN Bank. A failed payment on Friday evening in practice means that you have to wait until Monday morning for support.
GoDutch combines digital ease of use with round-the-clock availability. Pro and Unlimited customers receive priority support, and Unlimited customers additionally get a dedicated account manager. For entrepreneurs operating internationally, the multilingual support is an extra barrier reducer. For entrepreneurs who do not want to depend on opening hours and who regularly work outside office hours, GoDutch fits better with the reality of modern entrepreneurship.
What is the difference between ASN Self-employed Payments and ASN SME Account?
ASN Betalen Zelfstandigen is the business package for self-employed people and sole traders (€7.95 per month), whereas ASN MKB Rekening (€10.70 per month) is intended for larger businesses such as partnerships, private limited companies and foundations. The ASN MKB Rekening originated from the acquisition of RegioBank by ASN Bank on 1 December 2025, with both products now falling under the same banking licence.
For self-employed people, ASN Betalen Zelfstandigen offers a simple business account with €0.15 per SEPA payment, one debit card, online access and the option of up to five authorised users. Customer due diligence costs are limited and generally do not apply to sole traders. For SME business owners on the MKB Rekening, additional customer due diligence costs of €1.50 to €5.00 per month apply, plus the same transaction costs and package limitations.
At GoDutch there is no tiered structure based on legal form: the same four packages (Free, Starter, Pro, Unlimited) are available to self-employed people, private limited companies, partnerships, holding companies, foundations, associations and owners’ associations. For a GoDutch self-employed account, that is the permanently free Free package; SME business owners choose from Starter, Pro or Unlimited without the legal form determining the price. More about ASN's offering is on the page about the business account of ASN Bank.
What changes after the merger of ASN with RegioBank for business customers?
From 1 December 2025, RegioBank has been taken over by ASN Bank and Volksbank itself has been converted into ASN Bank N.V. For business customers, this means that the former RegioBank MKB Account is now offered under the ASN name as ASN MKB Account, with the same fees (€10.70 per month) but under a new brand positioning. The partnership model with independent advisers in local areas remains in place.
Important changes for business customers after the merger:
Account numbers remain the same: existing RegioBank IBAN's are not changed, only the brand and communications change
Supervision and banking licence: the merged bank operates under a single banking licence with De Nederlandsche Bank
Customer service: is now handled via ASN Bank channels for all former RegioBank customers
Products: ASN Betalen Zelfstandigen and ASN MKB Account (formerly RegioBank MKB) are now both ASN products
Fee increase: in February 2026 ASN Bank increased its business fees by 8%
For entrepreneurs who want to reconsider their business banking relationship in the run-up to or after the merger, this is a natural moment to compare alternatives. As a digital alternative, GoDutch offers no package choice based on legal form, no fee increases on the Free package and a transparent cost structure. You can find a broad view of the market in the overview of the best banks for entrepreneurs.
What legal forms does GoDutch accept compared with ASN Bank?
GoDutch accepts all common Dutch business legal forms: sole proprietorships, general partnerships (VOF), private limited companies (BV), public limited companies (NV), holding companies, foundations, associations, homeowners' associations (VvE) and cooperatives. ASN Bank offers business accounts for sole proprietorships (Betalen Zelfstandigen) and for SMEs via the MKB Account, with additional conditions depending on legal form and sector.
For non-profit organisations, GoDutch offers a special 0% VAT rate on the subscription for foundations, homeowners' associations and associations. ASN Bank applies standard VAT rates to the MKB Account, without distinction for non-profit purposes. For a board of an association or foundation with an annual budget where every euro counts, that is structurally noticeable in the annual costs.
In addition, GoDutch offers dedicated functionality for specific legal forms, such as board member changes for homeowners' associations and shared access for VOF partners. Board members can directly apply for a GoDutch for foundations, or open an account for homeowners' association boards for apartment management. At ASN Bank, this goes through the general MKB application process without dedicated functionality per legal form.
How much do you pay for KYC customer due diligence at ASN Bank compared with GoDutch?
ASN Bank charges monthly €1.50 to €5.00 in customer due diligence (KYC) costs for certain legal forms on the SME Account, on top of the package fee of €10.70 per month. For private limited companies (BV), public limited companies (NV), foundations and more complex structures, this usually rises to the higher rate. At GoDutch, customer due diligence costs are fully included in the subscription, regardless of the legal form.
In practice, for a BV with the ASN SME Account, this means: €10.70 package + €3.00 average KYC = €13.70 per month, or €164.40 per year in fixed costs. On top of that come SEPA transaction fees of €0.15 per payment. With GoDutch Free, the fixed costs are €0 and the transaction fees are €0.12 per SEPA transfer.
The separate KYC pass-through is not unique to ASN. Several major banks have used this model since 2023. At GoDutch, the choice was made for one transparent rate in which the customer due diligence is included, without separate mark-ups that vary by legal form. For entrepreneurs who want to predict their fixed costs without surprises, that offers structurally more certainty in planning. A more detailed perspective on the broader cost picture can be found in the article about transaction fees for business accounts.
How sustainable is GoDutch compared with ASN Bank?
ASN Bank positions itself emphatically as a sustainable bank and, since its founding in 1960, has focused on responsible investing in sustainable and social projects. It is a recognisable USP and appeals especially to entrepreneurs who want to align their financial relationships with sustainable values. GoDutch positions itself primarily as a digital financial platform and does not have sustainability as its core positioning.
ASN Bank’s sustainability proposition is mainly reflected in the use of customer balances: savings and business deposits are invested by ASN in renewable energy, social housing and other ESG projects. For entrepreneurs who see their business banking relationship as part of their broader sustainability policy, that is an additional consideration. GoDutch makes no comparable claim about the use of customer balances.
For entrepreneurs for whom sustainability is a main criterion, ASN Bank offers a specific proposition. For entrepreneurs who choose on the basis of functionality, fee structure and digital user-friendliness, GoDutch offers a stronger overall package with automation, cashback and 24/7 support. The two propositions are not mutually exclusive; many entrepreneurs consciously combine a digital platform for day-to-day use with a savings deposit at a sustainable provider, depending on personal preference.
How do I close my ASN Bank business account and switch to GoDutch?
Switching from ASN Bank to GoDutch is arranged in four steps. Within one working day you have an operational account with GoDutch and only close your ASN account as the final step, so you can switch over calmly without missed payments.
Step-by-step plan for the switch:
Open your account with GoDutch: complete the online application (three minutes), identify yourself with a passport or driving licence and wait for KYC processing (three hours). Your IBAN and virtual Mastercard will be active immediately afterwards.
Inform your contacts about your new IBAN: send customers and suppliers a short email with your new account number. In the GoDutch app, download a bank statement with your IBAN for your records.
Move direct debits and subscriptions: adjust recurring payments for energy, software subscriptions, suppliers and periodic invoices. ASN Bank offers a free switching service for direct debits that are automatically forwarded to your new account for up to 13 months.
Close your ASN account: transfer the remaining balance to GoDutch and close your ASN account via Online Banking or by contacting ASN customer service. A comprehensive step-by-step guide with the practical steps to close ASN Bank will guide you through this process.
Keep both accounts running in parallel for the first month, so any forgotten direct debits are not rejected. If you have questions during the switch, GoDutch's support team can help you by phone 24/7, something that at ASN Bank is only available during office hours. Ready to switch to a digital platform with unlimited cashback, automatic administration and instant onboarding? You can open a GoDutch business account straight away and get started today.
