Bronbeek home to new Indisch Remembrance centre

ARNHEM – The Dutch veterans’ care facility Bronbeek, which is home to many former soldiers who hail from the former Dutch East Indies, has been designated as the future site of a new Indisch Remembrance Centre. The new centre takes the place of a forerunner at The Hague which was shut down by the authorities over internal disagreements, staffing problems and poor financial management. The centre will focus on the Japanese occupation of the former Dutch East Indies, the independence war following World War II, and the massive repatriation of the Indisch Dutch as well as their integration into Dutch society (thousands moved on in the 1960s, notably to the U.S.A.).
