The ’spits’, a vessel which measures about 38 metres long by 5 metres wide, can still be seen on nearly all inland waterways. The popular former work horse of bulk cargo forwarders is no longer economical in the fast changing industry, which requires larger vessels and increasingly is geared towards container traffic. Mostly built between 1930 and 1970, the ‘spits’ fleet is largely owned by history buffs who consider the vessels floating monuments. Revive family history consciousness by turning such a inland cargo ship bouwplaat model kit into a self-made decorative treasure. The paper model (quality light card stock) is rated for experienced builders. Instruction is in Dutch and English.
