Dutch fishing vessel UK-93 Dutch fishing vessel UK-93

Paper model – bouwplaat Zuiderzeebotter 1:50

by

The reliable work horse for the Zuyderzee inland fishing industry, this ship was the mainstay on what is now called the IJssel Lake or Flevo Lake. In 1900, there were over 3000 of these fishing vessels in operation (in the following ports: Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Edam, Volendam, Monnickendam, Marken, Durgerdam, Muiden, Bunschoten-Spakenburg, Nijkerk, Harderwijk, Elburg, Kampen, Hasselt, Urk and Vollenhoven). When a dam turned the Zuyderzee into a fresh water body, the fisheries sector in these towns downsized rapidly. Only the fisheries in Urk (note the ship’s acronym UK) continued to thrive. Today, a small number of these historic vessels can still be seen around the ports. The paper model (quality light card stock) is rated for beginners. Instruction is in Dutch, German and English.
