WITMARSUM - The monument to church reformer Menno Simons who was born in this Frisian village in 1496, will be overhauled and expanded to include a ‘Menno Park.’ The park will get a transparent contour replica of the first small Mennonite church of Witmarsum, torn down in the 19th century, and an International Menno Simons Centre. The Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) largely funds the building project. MCC represents over one million Mennonites all over the world, especially in North America. The number of Mennonites (Doopsgezind) in the Netherlands hovers around the 10,000.
