ROTTERDAM - Work is under way on a number of improvements and new buildings for the Blijdorp Zoo, which in 2007 will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The zoo will open a new restaurant, aviary, greenhouse and a polar bears’ exhibit. Another new exhibit will combine habitats for animals of the African savanna. At a later stage, an Australian habitat will be added, while plans are finalized for an exhibit of species that live in the North American Rockies. A project to rebuild the famed observation tower which was torn down in 1972, has been shelved for budgetary reasons.
