Canada appoints Colleen Swords Ambassador to the Netherlands

THE HAGUE – Ontario law expert Colleen Swords has been appointed Ambassor of Canada to the Netherlands. She succeeds Serge April. Mrs. Swords’ appointment took effect recently.

Kamloops-born Swords is a graduate of Brock University, Osgoode Hall Law School and the Europa Institute of the University of Amsterdam. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, and has been a member of the Canadian National Group of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, and a part-time law professor at the University of Ottawa.

Swords most recently held the position of Legal Adviser to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa. She has worked for Foreign Affairs Canada and at International Trade Canada for over 25 years, in Ottawa as well as in Washington, Thailand and Tanzania.
