GENDRINGEN – A major multi-year documentation effort is underway in the Achterhoek region of the Dutch province of Gelderland, which will see the listing of about two million people online. The website www.ecal.nu can already be consulted but is far from complete yet. While the municipality of Gendringen leads the way, the historical civil registry databases of all Achterhoek municipalities will eventually be accessible. The registries date back to 1850. Scanned documents provide essential details of the make up of families.
