Dutch enthusiasts race lawn tractors at top speed

BONTEBOK - Racing lawn tractors with speeds of over 100 clicks an hour is a new fad that seems to appeal to thousands of Dutch youths. Just recently various local clubs converged on a village in the northern Dutch village of Bontebok for national championships lawn tractor racing. To gain such high speeds, youths replace lawn tractor engines or modify them. The lawn tractors are not the only vehicles that are used for competitive racing, depending on which age group is involved, anything on wheels that can race is game for drag racing. Five years ago, a group in Drachten organized a racing event, which for the first time in the Netherlands, included a snowmobile.
