New veterans decorated with medals of distinction

THE HAGUE - On Saturday 25 June, The Netherlands celebrated Veterans’ Day in The Hague and in numerous other towns across the country. This year it was the seventh edition, appreciated by Dutch veterans of all campaigns, includes those involved in the Dutch resistance during WWII. The day began with a festival on the Malieveld, a large open space. There also was a gathering in the Knight’s Hall (Ridderzaal), followed by an Award ceremony for the military at the Inner Court (Binnenhof) where soldiers received a medal in recognition of their commitment during recent military missions. The ceremony was followed by a parade in which 4000 veterans and soldiers took part, accompanied by 18 music bands. In addition, the public was treated to a fly-past with historical and modern planes and helicopters.
