GRONINGEN – Multinational Ikea, which has its roots in Sweden but its head office in the Netherlands, for decades had a small outlet in this northern Dutch city, mainly as a pickup counter for orders. The chain built a much larger outlet in Groningen some years ago, which turned out to be highly successful. Ikea enlarged its Groningen outlet recently, making it the second largest overall, with only Stockholm having a still much larger outlet. The Groningen outlet measures 41,000 square meters, Stockholm 50,000.
