New paper on Speaking about God headed to PKN Synod

UTRECHT – Secretary-general Dr. A.J. Plaisier of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN) has submitted a document, Spreken over God (Speaking about God), to his Synod as a response to a controversial book by Rev. K. Hendrikse of Middelburg. The clergyman set off shockwaves with Geloven in a God die niet bestaat (Believing in a God who does not exist), a book which called into question his position in Classis Zierikzee. In the end, Classis Zierikzee essentially chose to look the other way but did request the PKN to stimulate a discussion about God. A former missionary, Dr. Plaisier wrote his paper as a guideline about the subject for the protestant churches and it will be placed on the agenda of Synod for discussion and possibly publication for wider use in the denomination. The paper bases itself on the Reformed confessional position of the PKN.
