Group of former resistance members disbands

THE HAGUE – The remaining members of the National Federative Council of the Former Resistance Netherlands (known by its Dutch acronym NFR) have recently affirmed an earlier decision to disband by holding a final farewell, effective June 30. In the past three years, the organization had shrunk to only one fifth of its membership base with only 300 remaining. The average age of the membership had risen to 89 while the oldest member had turned 107. The NFR had as its aim to promote the ideals of liberty, for which they fought during the occupation of the Nazis in 1940-1945. It also pushed authorities to continue their pursuit of wartime collaborators who had avoided or escaped the rule of law.
