Photographer earns prize with novel winter landscape angle

KINDERDIJK – A very typical winter landscape with a significant departure from the more traditional view earned a national prize recently. In the category daily news, photo journalist Robin Utrecht was awarded the Zilveren Camera 2009. His submission captured the Dutch public at its best, skating on the canals lined by Kinderdijk’s windmills. The award was announced around the time that a Dutch museum featured a winter in Holland exhibit on Dutch landscape master Hendrik Avercamp who centuries ago captured winter landscapes on canvas. Utrecht’s innovation? His photograph presents a bird’s eye view of the landscape, definitely a rare angle.
