Breakfast a lonely affair for most Dutch people

Tags: Excerpts from the Windmill

GORINCHEM - One in four people in the Netherlands regularly leave home in the morning without first having breakfast. Others, who do sit down for something to eat, are done in twelve minutes. The Dutch prefer a traditional breakfast of brown or whole wheat bread with cheese, plus coffee or tea. Children opt for the same kinds of bread but top it with chocolate hail or spread. Milk is their preferred drink. These findings recently were released by Trias, a firm which promotes breakfast as the most important meal of the day. It further aims to create awareness for nutritious food. The message may be resonating because one in four of those polled agree that they now eat healthier but seven out of ten have breakfast alone, listening to the news or reading a newspaper.
