Zeeland first Dutch region awarded bicycle friendliness certificate

Tags: Excerpts from the Windmill

MUNICH – The EU has set up a program to stimulate bicycle ridership. The program offers Bypad certificates for cities and regions that meet its criteria. Three regions were the first to receive such a certificate recently. The southwestern Dutch province of Zeeland was also noted for bicycle friendly policies and an above average reliance on pedal power to get around this coastal area. Zeeland’s certificate is the first one issued for the Netherlands. Bypad, which will rate all cities and regions in the EU, has adapted its name from the term Bicycle Policy Audit. The Brussels regions in Belgium and the Swiss city of Zurich are the other two that received a Bypad certificate.
