Harbour Works invites Rotterdam to join its anniversary

ROTTERDAM – Rotterdam’s municipal Port Authority, the organization that spearheaded the growth of a small inland port into the largest port in Europe and one of the most modern facilities anywhere, is turning 75 this year. The port authority plans to treat the local citizenry, its employees (1250), the business community and surrounding municipalities with a series of festivities, involving local conservatory students and many others. Several agencies are preparing an exhibit on the port. Since there are other Rotterdam institutions (Diergaarde Blijdorp and Municipal Archives, each 150) and businesses (Container terminal ECT, 40) which have an anniversary in 2007, the Port Authority has invited these to join as a partner for a joint anniversary dinner. Rotterdam for years was the world’s largest, but now has been surpassed by several Asian ports.
