Dutch pilot training consolidates at Springfield, Ohio

Tags: Excerpts from the Windmill

VOLKEL – The training of Dutch F-16 fighter pilots will soon take place at the Springfield Air National Guard Base in Ohio where the current Arizona program also will be consolidated. Dutch pilots usually start their training locally in PC-7 aircraft. Previously, they were Tuscon, Arizona bound for training in a range of aircrafts. Until now, the F-16 training upon return to the Netherlands was given at Volkel but this was far from ideal to area-residents who objected to noise generated by the jets. With news of the impending departure of the planes, the defense department is reviewing environmental impact studies to balance the needs of the air base and those of the local community.
